uTorrent Description

uTorrent is a small and the most popular BitTorrent client. Most of the features present in other BitTorrent clients are present in uTorrent, including bandwidth prioritization, scheduling, RSS auto-downloading, and Mainline DHT.

uTorrent includs bandwidth prioritization, scheduling, RSS auto-downloading and Mainline DHT (compatible with BitComet). Additionally, uTorrent supports the Protocol Encryption joint specification (compatible with Azureus 2.4.0.0, and now BitComet 0.63) and peer exchange.

uTorrent was written with efficiency in mind. Unlike many torrent clients, uTorrent does not hog valuable system resources – typically using less than 6MB of memory, allowing you to use the computer as if it weren’t there at all. Additionally, uTorrent itself is contained within a single executable less than 160 KB in size.

Various icon, toolbar graphic and status icon replacements are available in uTorrent, and creating your own is very simple. uTorrent also has support for localization, and with a language file present, will automatically switch to your system language. If your language isn’t available, you can easily add your own, or edit other existing translations to improve them!

The developer of uTorrent puts in a lot of time working on features and making things more user friendly. Releases only come out when they’re ready, with no schedule pressures, so the few bugs that appear in uTorrent are quickly addressed and fixed.

This week uTorrent 3.2.2 was released to the public and one of the release highlights are the new advertisements present in the client. BitTorrent Inc. hopes that these ads will bring in extra revenue so the company can continue to invest in the future of distributed technology. When the advertising initiative was first announced no opt-out was offered, but thanks to user feedback there now is an advanced feature to disable the ads.

that said utorrent is a great program compaired to others i've tried (and beleive me i've tried 'em all)

People with fast machines use Azureus, people who like to leech use BitComet and people who are ignorant use BitLord and more of those. The honest torrenteer, who likes to have a non-bull 100%-results client uses uTorrent. When configured the right way, there's nothing holding you back! Don't make your system lag or get infected withadware, uTorrent is the only honest free torrent downloader out there. Use it!

tracy.xu.9822 on September 22,2012 Useful (11) Useless (0): This applciation is perfect for downloading torrents. It's not heavy and is not consuming a lot of CPU. The functionality is good as well. But there's no way to organize files by Name/Size in the "Add New Torrent" screen (build 27850 was fine with the Name/Size). Don't know why they removed that feature. For example, When a torrent has multiple files and I want to download just the smallest file to check it (instead of wasting my Ratio).
