Avira and Avast are not as bloated, but this works ok, see comparison http://www.brighthub.com/computing/smb-security/articles/50054.aspx

It's unobtrusive and effective. No popups or requests for confusing decisions. I've been using it for a year or so on several computers along with a couple of other free anti-malware programs and the protection has been spot on so far. (I also use superantispyware and threatfire).

Surprisingly Awesome. This is as effective as any other solution I've tried, and doesn't waste my system resources.

I have been using this MSE on my laptop for a year now and its great and no viruses! Wish I was using it on my Dell computer because I was using AVG and it is full of viruses.

I'm very much happy to use MSE, But it's only about a month I'm using this product, I think we should give MSE a six month try for a final report. As my test report on free soft is #1 AVG #2 Avast #3 Avira

Way above Avast, Avira and other freeware security solutions. Previously I used McAfee and Norton 360, both with license, not the trial version. The system was slow. Moreover, when the subscription was over, I had hard times uninstalling them. Then I tried Avira and Avast. By far MSE is my favorite.

Pros:1.FREE! 2.VERY FEW false positives! 3.IT'S DETECTION RATE IS HIGHER THAN AVAST! AS TESTED BY AV-COMPARATIVES.ORG . 4.BUT for an excellent protection You MUST use SUPERANTISPYWARE OR Malwarebytes' Freeware for on-demand scanning. Cons: Quick scan takes a few minutes

tried all 10 of the Top 10 Virus/Malware/Spyware apps on CNET. Not one of them found the virus, but to my amazement, Microsoft Security Essentials did! I downloaded the Microsoft virus scanner as a last-resort, and wish I\\\'d have tried it from the beginning, would have saved me countless hours of installing and uninstalling and locked computer and aggravation trying to manually edit registry keys and take ownership of locked files the Trojan Worm was usurping on my PC. I never thought I\\\'d say this, but Microsoft saved the day (probably the last time MS does something I can compliment and actually recommend tho!) Get Microsoft Security Essentials, your End-2-End security solutions that ends the nightmare. NOTE: only works on

It does what is says on the tin. It takes less space than the others, fits in seamlessly, updates quietly on its own provided Windows is set to auto update and, unlike some, I have had no false alarms. Are you sure this is Microsoft?

Best free antivirus software on the market. I've been using it close to a year now and I am virus free before I was always getting virus by using other different types of softwares whether it was free or paid versions.

Good software and does a nice job. 1. It is NOT Faster than the others 2. No better no worse than other similar apps. 3. It IS a system resource hog over 80K No software will catch all viri and it is a wise practice to run more than one virus/anti-malware app. (not at same time of course). MS apps tend to activate things behind your back. Be vigilant and beware the fox guarding the hen house. :)
